Updating FEBio and FEBio Studio
FEBio Studio has a built-in feature for automatically updating your version of both FEBio and FEBio Studio to the latest release. This feature is often an easier way to get to the latest version, compared to uninstalling your current version, downloading the new version from the web, and installing the new version.
The auto-update feature allows you to update to either the release version, which is the latest stable version that is also available from the febio download page, or the develop version, which has the latest new features and bug fixes. The process for updating to these different versions is slightly different and described in more detail below.
Note that new release versions can also be downloaded from the download page, but development releases can only be updated via this auto-update mechanism.
Release Updates
When a new version is released, a notification appears on the Welcome page. Alongside it, there is a link that you can click on and that will start the process of updating to the latest version. Simply follow the instructions on screen to update your current version of FEBio and FEBio Studio.
Development Updates
New features and bug fixes are usually first applied to the latest development version of FEBio and FEBio Studio. If you need access to the latest changes, you can update to the latest development versions.
To update to the latest development version, please follow these steps:
- Open FEBio Studio and go to the menu Tools\Options (on MacOS this is FEBio Studio\Preferences).
- In the dialog that appears, select the Auto-Update settings from the left-side panel.
- On the right-side panel, click the “Update to development version” and follow the instructions on screen.
